Hello Sunshine/Shadows cast by the sun
.jpg)
Alright kiddos,
Im just finishing up work for my new dual e.p. release. Which should get posted here on ineedmusik.com in a couple of weeks.
Hello Sunshine holds what I consider to be lighter, brighter tracks. Pulled from spring season day dreams and early mornings spent climbing to a peak of a mountain to watch a British Colombian sunrise. The head line song "Hello Sunshine" contains vocals that were only my third attempt at recording vocals on a webcam(following "Don't set your self on fire" and "Reminiscence"). They are flawed but in my way I like their character, and the over all vibe of the song as its come together". Most of these beats were created during my time spent in Kelowna and Calgary, between 2000 and 2007.

Shadows cast by the sun has one of my personal favorite tracks. This title song was created in reflection of a simple ms paint image I did many years ago, it bares the same name. I was hoping to crown this track off with a vocal sample from the talented, Edinburgh based Sacre Noir. The lovely vocals were even recorded, but in a classic battle of water vs. technology my laptop was no more. Someday you will hear it that way, but for now you can enjoy what I consider to be one of my better beats sans vocals. This e.p. contains tracks I considered to be grittier, darker, or more desperate. Great for a good fast night drive, or in a Blade movie action sequence. Most of these beats were created during my time spent in Kelowna and Calgary, between 2000 and 2007.
Hope you guys dig'em and get your whistle wet for some rocking brand new tracks, tracks actually made this year!

The new (old) Moderat??

Ive been listening to Mondkopf for a while, but its taken a bit to get into his stuff. Im a sucker for anything French at the minute though so a more intense listen has been needed for a while.
Quite simply, Galaxy of Nowhere, out last last year, is a stunning album. I dont quite know how to classify it yet but Moderat-esque is about as far as I have got. If you are a fan of that crazy trip-hop-electro stuff this might be the guy for you. 11 (and a couple of the ol intro and outro) tracks of listenable tunes is what he has delivered, and I for one am suitably impressed.
If you fancy a listen (and I think you should even for the curious among you) head on over to..
If anything you will find some interesting music that might see its way onto a movie soundtrack or two in the coming years.. but im just speculating..

Home town boys makin good

Right on!
I wasn't gonna write anything till next tuesday, maintaining a routine and all but I just got soem sweet news via my Okanagan valley local newspaper.
Yukon Blonde, A flippin fantastic rock band from my home town(and personal friends), have just been nominated for ROCK RECORDING of the YEAR! by the Western Canadian Music Awards.
You will know why if you stop by their myspace. A bit retro with harmonies and a touch of surrealism they have just finished a North American tour and believe me they deserve this accolade.
Why do i care this much? Because with out the bands founder and frontman, Jeff Innes there would be no D.Soul the Soulsamurai.
I met Jeff in highschool through an ex girlfriend of mine, at a time I knew I wanted too make music but wasn't sure how.
I would hang out at Jeffs house for days or weeks even, watching him produce on fruity loops, than Id take what Id seen and mimic it on my than demo version of fruity loops. Did that for a year before I got my full program and spread my own wings. In that time we discussed all aspects of life and love, and we philosophized about time travel and string theory.
Jeff has always been an amazing musician in all aspects but his desire for perfection was preventing him from stepping out of the studio. So shortly before I moved east to find work in film, I recall sitting with Jeff in my car and explaining to him in depth how I felt about him and his music and how the world deserved to hear it and share in it.
Iv always hoped that hoped that started a fire under him, becuse shortly after he and our friend Graham Jones, realy started jammin it out. They did a stint as a 5 peice group called Alpha Baby which I loved, and have now settled down to a 3 peice act Yukon Blonde and are writing some KILLER music. You don't even know.
So thats it, check them out. Get some Western Canadian in ya. Do it.
Congrats Jeff Innes, Graham Jones and Brandon Scott.

Getting started(back to the beginning)

Why hello, and welcome to my first ever blog posting. This is a world that's new too me, I have never read a blog or even thought about posting one before.
So why now?
Well I have just recently returned to Western Canada after living in Edinburgh Scotland for about 2 years, and I'm Trying to pad the change as much as I can by keeping busy.
The Edinburgh I saw was a vibrant, colourful, (I'm spelling colour the Canadaian way, and my American comp. don't approve) creative and interactive place. I kept quite busy working with musicians to photographers and street artists of all styles and genres. Hiphoppers helping Indie rockers, Indie rockers helping Djs, ect. ect. Unfortunately my own home town of Kelowna in British Columbia, dose not have the same mentality.
So, I blog to recall the good times and to keep my brothers and sisters in creation up on the whats what.
I'm working on new music myself as well I have picked up the brush again and will have some paining too show you. In my sights right now is Vancouver, to cut my teeth some more and to prepare my self for Japan(hopefully in the spring).
I'll keep this post short as I believe in warming up to new things, but keep your eyes up for new artists I find that I'll be giving shout outs and links too. For now keep needing musik, and love thy neighbor!

NEW RELEASE: Synonym "The Pact"
Music finally gets interesting again..

The new Oceansize album is nearly here! After a couple of years of waiting and one (rather boring) ep later we can rejoice that the intricate soundscapes will soon be flowing out our earphones once again. I for one cant wait. September 2010. Mark it down.
Get over to http://www.superballmusic.com/specials/oceansize for an exclusive track 'Superimposer' from the album 'Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up'. Its an absolute corker of a track too. With all this playing time Mike Vennart has been doing with the Biffy boys, you can bet that there will be some catchy riffage and harmonies in there too. Happy listening.
Now all we need is for 'The Octopus' to be released by Amplifier this year and we have two potential albums of the year.

Matthew Dear : Black City : Out Now!
Here at ineedmusik, we're big fans of Matthew Dear, in whatever guise he happens to be in. Audion, False, Matthew Dear, Matthew Dears Big Hands... It's all good. So, a new album from this chap is something we get very excited about. And today, Ghostly unleashed his new LP "Black City".

Head on over to the Ghostly Store to immerse yourself in darkness.
As with any new release of 2010, there's a variety of formats to choose from, with the standard CD, LP+CD, and Digital formats all present and correct, and theres even a wee obelisk thingy that'll set you back $125 if you're feeling particularly flush.
Buying from Ghostly has it's perks too, as the mp3 download is only $8, which in UK quids is about a fiver. Compared to iTunes £7.99, it makes a lot of sense to buy direct from the label.
Get on it folks, this one is an absolute gem.

(nearly) Deadmau5

Our favourite mouse-headed electro party animal Deadmau5 collapsed on stage the other night suffering from exhaustion and vomiting. These electro types, eh? And now for the inevitable show cancellations:
August 1st Osheaga Music & Arts Festival, Canada
August 7th Summersonic Osaka Japan
August 8th Summersonic Tokyo Japan
August 12th Cream at Amnesia Ibiza
August 13th Cocorico Riccione Italy
August 14th Papaya Summer Festival Croatia
August 15th Sziget Festival Budapest Hungary
August 17th Cavo Paradiso Mykonos Greece
August 18th Opium Mar Barcelona Spain
Fingers are crossed he makes a full and swift recovery of course, but particularly in time for Pukkelpop on 20th August! Saw his show at Glasgow Barrowlands earlier in the year, and it was pretty spectacular stuff, despite the venues low ceiling only allowing about 3/4 of the light show to be squeezed in.
Feed the wee fella some cheese, and everything will be hunky dory.

Pukkelpop 2010
I've been to 3 of the the last 4 editions of the little Belgian treasure known as the Pukkelpop Festival, and with this year being the 25th year, they've pulled out all the stops to get the big guns in.
Thursday 19th August
Friday 20th August
Saturday 21st August
I will, of course, do my best to capture some audio/video from the festial, and the will certainly be a photo documentary of some kind. Last years fest saw 30 degree heat, torrential downpours and some of the finest live entertainment i've seen in recent years (Bon Iver was sublime, Puppet Mastaz were mindblowing, and The Bug was incendiary) and i'm looking forward to more of the same.... Hasselt, what you got in store for me this year?

RCRD LBL RADIO : Tracey Thorn (Morgan Geist Remix)
During the final months of my tenure as a warrior of noble virtue (i worked in a record store) i picked up Tracey Thorns most recent album "Love and It's Opposite". I've always enjoyed the sadness she seems to channel pretty spectacularly. Check out "Hormones" below, breaking new ground in jaunty intimacy.
Anyway, this is a delightful, cheesy workout placed lovingly underneath some beautiful vocal harmonies. If you're unfamiliar with rcrdlbl.com, i recommend you click the link below and have a dig around. It's all free, and a lot of it is very good indeed.

NEW RELEASE : Synonym "Trust In Someone"

There's a brand new Synonym album on the way, but here's an exclusive, stand-alone single, which is not on the new long player.
Created entirely using a Korg Kaossilator, this slice of experimental electro fuses minimal-techno ideals with some live body percussion, subtly laced with a killer "Tell me who to believe" vocal hook. It's an indication of what's instore on the new Synonym album, which will be available very soon. In the meantime, download this and get it pumping on the stereo.
Download it for free right here, right now.
